School Background

Our school is located in the Dunston area of Gateshead, which is adjacent to the River Tyne and very close to the Metro Centre shopping area. Presently, Dunston is undergoing a huge re-development. New housing is being built around the school, regeneration of the transport and shopping area is planned and the historical Staithes are undergoing a complete overhaul.

We are a one form entry school with a Nursery attached. There are presently 214 children attending (including Nursery). The ethos is distinctly calm and friendly. Visitors frequently comment on the good behaviour and the polite manners of our children. We are very proud of the attitude of our pupils.

Our school building is approximately 25 years old, in good condition and is built on one level. We have no internal steps and so the school is considered suitable for wheelchair users. Presently, the governors have a plan for the improvement to the school building including issues of accessibility.

Our school grounds are the envy of many other primary schools. We have a huge KS2 field, a smaller KS1/Foundation Stage field, two large flat playgrounds and garden areas along the outside of the classrooms with paved ‘outdoor classroom’ areas. We have two internal courtyards which are used by the children and their teachers. Fund raising from the community and particularly, our parents, have purchased much of our outdoor play equipment. We have further exciting plans to add to the beautiful equipment we already have.

Most children live in the immediate area of Dunston, although we have children from Lobley Hill, Swallwell, Bensham, the Teams and some from outside of Gateshead.
