Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 took part in the morning, and Key Stage 2 competed in the afternoon. All children took part in all the events: running, sack race, skipping, javelin, throwing bean-bags in hoops and a penalty shoot-out. Children were working together to earn points for their house.

It was a brilliant day; we had beautiful weather and lots of parents and grandparents came to watch. Thank you to everybody who came along to support the children, and a big well done to everybody who took part!

They had to read lots of brand new books then write reviews about these to go on a special website. Each book was also given a score out of 5.

On July 1st, the children were invited to the awards ceremony at Gateshead Old Town Hall where the winning books were announced. The children had an excellent evening; they got up on stage and performed a play about their favourite book (The Boy In The Dress by David Walliams), they were given a special certificate for taking part in the project and then they got to meet a famous author called Cathy Cassidy.Ryan getting our certificate.JPGThe author Cathy Cassidy.JPGY5 outside Gateshead Old Town Hall.JPG

They worked with two artists from the Baltic and learnt how to create prints. They made a book of their own story called "The Adventures of Abigail". They were then invited to London for an exhibition of work from all of the schools involved in the project.

During the week before half term, in the sleet, snow and cold a brave team of tough men and women from EDF Energy and Gateshead Council began the great digging project that is now our school allotment!

We have two raised beds for planting and the area is now fenced off.

Gateshead gardens department is providing us with compost bins and we are hoping for several fruit trees.
One member of staff has already kindly donated some strawberry plants but we are looking for more leafy donations!

Each class is planning to grow some fruit or vegetables ready to harvest by the summer or on our return in September.

The allotment will provide many learning opportunities for our pupils, looking not only at plants, food chains and growing but also sustainability and the environment.

So get your green fingers at the ready and watch this space!

On Friday 12th February, we had a Pyjama Day to raise money for the Haiti earthquake appeal. We all donated some money to come to school in our pyjamas, dressing gowns and slippers!
Altogether, we raised £235.30!
We will be sending this money to the Red Cross charity to help the people of Haiti.
Well done to everybody for taking part; thank you very much for all your contributions.

Bernie and Bill have a range of games that are guaranteed to put the fun back into numbers. This site slots into the Numeracy Framework for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.

Digger and the gang

Get set for adventure! Nash, Flick and Sprat will help you get your numerical skills on track! Activities designed to test KS1 and KS2.

 

Dynamo

Drop into the den for some dynamizing Numeracy games, including Splat and Clockwise. A fun website to enjoy!

Maths Brain

Like playing a board game! Each time you move you have to do a maths challenge to be able to shake again. The level goes from 1 to 8, good for 6 - 9 year olds.
